Here’s where else you may recognize actress Hannah John-Kamen, who played Ghost in Ant-Man & The Wasp. The first Ant-Man is a movie that spent a long time in development hell, with Marvel first attempting to mount a film version in the late 1980s. It didn’t move ahead at that time since Disney was developing Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, which featured more than a few similarities. Curiously, Stuart Gordon - who wrote the latter film - was also in the running to direct an Iron Man movie around this era.
Howard Stern later expressed an interest in making an Ant-Man adaptation in the early 2000s. Edgar Wright (Baby Driver) was attached to write and direct Ant-Man for a number of years, which excited fans greatly, but the filmmaker eventually departed over creative differences with Marvel. Peyton Reed would eventually call the shots on the film, which featured a great cast, including Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, and Michael Douglas. The film was intended as a smaller-scale - pun intended - adventure for Marvel and plays like a heist movie.
Ant-Man would go on to appear in both Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Endgame, in addition to receiving a sequel with Ant-Man & The Wasp. While the follow-up received mixed reviews, it featured a unique villain in Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost, who is one of the more sympathetic antagonists to appear in the MCU.
Hannah John-Kamen has become a familiar face in recent years, thanks to numerous movie, TV, and video game appearances. She began her career with roles in British shows such as Misfits and Black Mirror’s “Fifteen Million Merits.” Following further parts in UK shows like the acclaimed Happy Valley, 2015 would prove to be a big year for John-Kamen’s career. She appeared in both Star Wars: The Force Awakens and gained a leading role in SyFy’s TV show Killjoys. She played the role of Yalena “Dutch” Yardeen on the series, which would soon receive a cult fanbase; the fifth and final season will air in 2019.
She also added her voice to infamously difficult video games Dark Souls and Dark Souls II, in 2011 and 2014 respectively. In 2016, Hannah John-Kamen would land a two-episode arc as Ornela on season 6 of Game Of Thrones, and would reappear on Black Mirror for the episode “Playtest.” She appeared as Ghost in Ant-Man & The Wasp in 2018 and that same year she played a supporting role in the Tomb Raider reboot and as F’Nale Zandor in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One.
Ant-Man & The Wasp was undeniably Hannah John-Kamen’s biggest role to date, and she’ll be keeping busy with Netflix’s fantasy series The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance, a sequel to the classic fantasy movie starring David Bowie. She’ll also appear in upcoming action thriller SAS: Red Notice alongside Ruby Rose and Andy Serkis.
