The Weasley’s are one of, if not the most, loving and caring families in the wizarding world of Harry Potter. However, from time to time, a few of them go too far with a joke, prank, or spell (looking at you Fred and George). While the movies include some of these scenes, many were excluded and can only be found in the books.
Hence, why movie fans should always read books rather than rely on their cinematic adaptions. With that, here are 10 of the worst things the Weasleys did to each other.
Making Ron’s Teddy Bear into a spider
Avid fans of both the movies and books know Ron is terrified of spiders. His visit to Aragog was met with uncontrollable fear and a laughable but shaky voice. Fred and George, being the pranksters they were, transfigured Ron’s teddy bear into a spider. Funny, yes, but kind of mean, considering this is Ron’s biggest phobia. He never let it go and for a good reason.
Used Ron’s Puffskein for Quidditch Practice
Fred and George were ferocious beaters on Team Gryffindor, some of the best at Hogwarts. When it came to practicing and honing their skills, though, their training wasn’t as honorable as their in-game playing.
Fred and George once used Ron’s Puffskein as something to use for bludger practice. Meaning, the poor fellow was used for batting practice as the two went at it with all their strength. Poor Puffskein.
Percy’s family betrayal
Percy is seen as the outcast of the family, mainly because of his strict loyalty to the ministry. His devotion to government and the desire to become Minister of Magic brought him to the dark side. Even for those who didn’t read the books can see Percy handing Harry in Order of the Phoenix. Not only that, but it’s Percy’s lack of respect towards his friends and family that earns him a label with such animosity and contempt.
Tongue Toffee
Every now and then, the Dursley’s get what they deserve, but when Fred and George made Dudley’s tongue hanging out of his mouth to the floor, they knew it was too much. So much so it damaged Mr. Weasley’s reputation in the ministry as someone who is fascinated by Muggles.
Was it funny? Of course, it was, considering Dudley’s abusive nature. But every so often Fred and George take it too far, no wonder they opened a joke shop.
Blamed Arthur For Money Troubles
Percy Weasley devoted himself to the ministry, choosing to side with those who denounced the return of Voldemort rather than his own family. But even more, Percy blamed his father, Arthur, for being poor. He cited his love and infatuation with muggles as their reasons for being poor. Percy lacks a certain amount of respect for his parents and doesn’t mind showing it. Arthur and Molly worked tirelessly to provide for such a large family; the least Percy could do was say thank you.
Tore Apart The Boys Dormitory for Tom Riddle’s Diary
Ginny Weasley doesn’t know any better when she opens up Tom Riddle’s diary; curiosity got the best of her. But her decision to tear apart the Gryffindor dormitory where Ron and Harry resided isn’t justified, it’s downright foolish.
Desperate to get her hands on it, Ginny searched every drawer and crevice for the coveted diary of the former student. No one likes cleaning their room, but cleaning up a mess someone else made is worse.
Stole Her Brother’s Broom to Fly
Ginny became one of the best chasers on the Gryffindor quidditch team, and no one knows precisely how. Growing up as the only girl amongst five brothers made competing with them difficult, but that didn’t stop her. So, she stole her brother’s brooms in secret and taught herself how to fly. The result? A place on the quidditch team and a self-made label as one of the coolest members of the Weasely family. Horrible? Not really, but kind of rude considering she could have broken their brooms, which would have been a costly replacement.
Making Fun of Ron for His Love Life
Ron is a jealous person; his hidden love for Hermione doesn’t come to fruition till the end when the two finally marry. But Ron’s been dealing with his non-existent love life his, well, entire life. So much so that Ginny made fun of him constantly for having never kissed a girl.
Ginny is much more attractive than Ron, meaning she went out on more dates and was more social. This made Ron jealous and rather envious of his siblings, but the crude humor at him didn’t help the situation.
Tried to Lock Percy in a Mummy Tomb
The Weasley’s embarked on a trip to Egypt, highlighted in the Prisoner of Azkaban. The family had an amazing time, but Fred and George wouldn’t let this golden opportunity slip from them. Percy, being the prefect he is, was once again at the mercy of the charismatic twins. This time, the dynamic duo tried to lock Percy inside a Mummy’s tomb. It didn’t work out, but it still brought a few laughs considering how annoyed Percy was thanks to his academic mind.
Tried to make Ron form an unbreakable Vow
Unbreakable vows are, well, unbreakable with the consequence being death. Whatever promise two people make, they’re bound to it until the task is completed. Fred and George almost convinced Ron to enter one, all in the name of comedy, but this one was deadly.
Ron isn’t the brightest, meaning if he had gone through with it, his life would have been severely altered. That doesn’t mean he would have died, but most fans can agree he would have come close to death more than a handful of times.
