Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’s professions play an integral part of the game’s story, and we’ve put together a guide to help with choosing one of the professions. The latest mobile game from developer Niantic introduces the concepts that made Pokemon GO so popular and mixes those gameplay elements with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, meaning that Harry Potter fans were anxiously scrambling to download the game as soon as it became available.

Gameplay in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is similar to Pokemon GO: the location-based title uses augmented reality to allow players to immerse themselves in the world of Harry Potter with their smartphone. The idea is to get off the couch and go outside to find and catch fantastic beasts and magical creatures. There are also inns where players can replenish their spell powers, greenhouses where they can gather potion ingredients, and fortresses that allow them to fight even more creatures.

Shortly after a player starts their journey in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, they will be prompted to choose their house, their wand, and their profession. The three Harry Potter: Wizards Unite professions available are Auror, Professor, and Magizoologist. Each Harry Potter: Wizards Unite profession has its own special skills and abilities, as well as strengths and weaknesses. Choose wisely because a player’s profession in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will affect how to approach each battle.

Auror

Much like in the Harry Potter books and movies, an Auror has skills focused on combat against the dark arts, including spell casting and attacks that cause a lot of damage. Aurors are the tanks of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and can deal the most damage of all the professions, making them very effective against Dark Forces. However, they can’t heal themselves, so they depend on healing potions. Auror is a profession suitable for players who like to play solo, although Aurors, like everyone else, work better as part of a team.

Aurors have one skill tree, Auror Fundamentals, with 138 unlockable points. Unlocking skills gives players new spells and abilities, as well as passive stat bonuses. Aurors specialize in power and precision, and they have great offensive stats, but their defensive stats are the worst of the professions. An Auror profession is good for players who like to jump into the fray and fight aggressively.

Magizoologist

Magizoologists are the Newt Scamanders of the Harry Potter world. They specialize in resources and providing buffs and healing, although they also have the abilities to deal well with magical creatures. Magizoologists are a support group of wizards, those who don’t like getting directly involved in combat but are good at helping out those who are in the thick of battle. Led by Hagrid, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’s Magizoologists have one skill tree, Lessons, with 142 unlockable points. Their skills and abilities revolve around support: they focus on healing spells, stamina boosts, power boosts, and revival charms.

Professor

The Professor profession in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, led by Professor McGonagall, is for those wizards who fall somewhere in between the other two professions. They use their vast knowledge of magic to take down enemies but are also adept at supporting other members of their team. Professors have one skill tree, also called Lessons, with 134 unlockable points. They can directly involve themselves in combat, as well as offer support to their teammates, making them the most balanced of the professions. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’s Professor is an excellent choice for players who like to mix it up in combat.
