Towards the end of our Avengers: Infinity War set visit, the film’s property master Russell Bobbitt spent some time with us to show us some of the new things fans will see in the final Phase 3 Avengers stories. Some of these things we cannot talk about yet (or at all), and some we can share today.

You may not know his name but you know his work. Bobbitt helped make Iron Man’s arc reactor and repulsor tech, Thor’s hammer Mjolnir, and Captain America’s shield among many others. He’s worked on all of the Iron Man films, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and nearly all the films shot at Pinewood Atlanta Studios beginning with Ant-Man. When it comes to character gear and weapons, he has the geeky details we love to dive into.

Knowing we couldn’t get deep into spoilers, Bobbitt was game and excited to talk about some of his department’s works that are coming in Avengers: Infinity War.

“Very cool things are going to happen in this movie.”

Since our chat with Russell Bobbitt took place at the end of the day as shooting wrapped up and since we hadn’t learned anything about Hawkeye’s role in the film yet, this was the first question I asked. We also spoke again to directors Anthony and Joe Russo after this where they shed some more light on Clint Barton’s next appearance as well.

Everyone in the group cheered at this response, knowing the running gag on set that no one would talk about Hawkeye - the character I was looking for the most information on.

“Hawkeye’s getting a lot of cool new stuff.”

Crossbows? More guns? An Ultimates-style mask perhaps? Hawkeye’s arsenal of arrow heads has always made him versatile but he’s used various guns throughout the years and different Marvel universes as well.

“That’s right. We’re developing a lot of interesting new stuff for him… both in something bow-related but some new gadgets that he has in addition to the bow.”

As for Thor’s new weapon which has appeared as two different things from early concept to the latest merchandise tie-in reveals (where it’s something similar to what Beta Ray Bill uses in Marvel Comics), Bobbitt says “if I’m Thor I’m not going to do this movie without a weapon,” and would only reply with “could be” when we described this:

Thor’s new weapon was confirmed as the “Stormbreaker” in toys.

All-new weapons and gadget’s for the marksman and heart of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. There’s a reason Hawkeye’s not been shown in any of the marketing and some of that has to do with him being on his own story in Avengers: Infinity War but we have a good feeling he’ll have an even more prominent role in the untitled Avengers 4 with an all-new costume. If you’re not a reader of Marvel Comics, look up “Ronin” and better yet, read our theory on how and why Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye could become Ronin.
