The most famous members of the Justice League may steal the spotlight for themselves, but the devotes fans know that the real power couple in the DC Universe is Hawkman and the Atom. Friends from the very start, the League’s greatest warrior and most brilliant mind have entered into a nightmare, thanks to The Batman Who Laughs and his Dark Multiverse madness. And to save his best friend, Ray Palmer is fighting an infection of evil from the inside out. Literally.
No fan could really blame the laughing supervillain for setting his sights on Hawkman, when deciding which of DC’s heroes he would infect with evil to form his own army. The bulk of that plot is still to be resolved as part of the Year of the Villain and Hell Arisen storylines. But for Hawkman in particular – currently corrupted into his most twisted former life as the villainous Sky Tyrant – every second counts. Thankfully, Hawkwoman has returned to banish Sky Tyrant, working in unison with the Atom. While Hawkwoman headed to outer space in search of some cosmic assistance, Ray Palmer headed into inner space, to meet the challenge head on.
It isn’t every day that a superhero heads into the body of his BFF to wage an unthinkable war against the evil of the Dark Multiverse, and Robert Venditti and Fernando Pasarin held off on that reveal as long as possible. In the previous issue, the trip of heroes were divided: the Atom within Carter Hall’s brain, Hawkwoman searching for Adam Strange, and Carter Hall haunting Sky Tyrant like a ghostly sidekick, laughing as he faces off against Hawkman’s biggest former friend. That’s exactly where DC’s preview of Hawkman #21 picks up, so read on below for the full preview:
