HBO’s lineup for San Diego Comic-Con 2019 has been revealed, and the network is bringing Game of Thrones, Westworld, and His Dark Materials to Hall H. There is also a surprise in store for fans waiting to see Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen TV series, which has thus far been mostly shrouded in mystery.
SDCC 2019 will take place from Thursday 18 to Sunday 21 July, and HBO’s panels will be spread across the first three days of the convention. We previously learned that the network was planning a Game of Thrones panel with members of the cast and creative team present to reflect on the recent eighth and final season. It’s now been confirmed that the cast members present will include Isaac Hempstead Wright, Maisie Williams, Iain Glen, Conleth Hill, Nathalie Emmanuel, Liam Cunningham, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, John Bradley, and Jacob Anderson. They’ll be joined by showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, and executive producer Michael Sapochnik, who directed “The Long Night” and “The Bells.”
According to TheWrap, the Game of Thrones panel will take place in Hall H on Friday, July 19 at 5:30pm. The panel for His Dark Materials, the upcoming fantasy series that stars Logan’s Dafne Keen as young heroine Lyra Belacqua, will take place on Thursday, July 18 at 4:45pm. Keen will be present for the panel, alongside co-stars James McAvoy, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Ruth Wilson, as well as executive producer Jane Tranter. The show is based on the book trilogy of the same name by Philip Pullman.
The first trailer for Westworld season 3 debuted alongside the Game of Thrones series finale, and introduced both Aaron Paul’s character and the world outside of the hyper-realistic theme park that the two previous seasons were set in. We can expect to see more from the upcoming season during Westworld’s Hall H panel, which will take place on Saturday, July 20 at 1:15pm. Paul will be in attendance, along with co-stars Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Ed Harris, and Tessa Thompson. Show creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy will also be on the panel.
Watchmen won’t be getting a fall panel (it seems as though HBO is still keen to keep this show largely under wraps), but there will be “a surprise in-world opportunity” for fans to check out in San Diego’s Gaslamp quarter. SDCC events typically spread out over the rest of the city, so even those who weren’t able to get a ticket for the convention floor will be able to join in the fun.
All-in-all, HBO has put together a pretty packed weekend for fans of the network’s prestige sci-fi and fantasy shows. Who knows - perhaps we’ll even find out a little more about that Game of Thrones prequel series.
