After doing big stunts on Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Henry Cavill wants to bring that element to James Bond if he ever gets the role. Daniel Craig’s time as James Bond is coming to a close. He’s returning for a fifth film that is being helmed by Danny Boyle, a move made to help breathe new life into Craig’s take. Once they’re done with Bond 25 though, the future of the franchise will be passed to another person.

Whether its Idris Elba or Charlize Theron, there’s several exciting candidates to be the next 007. One of the other top requested casting choices is Henry Cavill. He’s currently Warner Bros.’ Superman, but is still waiting on a sequel to his standalone. He attempted to lead a spy franchise of his own with The Man from U.N.C.L.E. before it was criminally under-seen. Now that he’s got Mission: Impossible in his back pocket, Cavill believes he’s even more prepared now and wants to take that franchise’s signature element with him.

Yahoo UK spoke to Cavill as part of Mission: Impossible - Fallout’s press tour and asked him about his interest in playing Bond. He’s expressed interest in the role prior, but with Craig’s run winding down, Cavill views his recent action-heavy stint with Mission: Impossible as a tease for what he’d like to bring to the role.

The early reactions to Fallout have been absolutely fantastic and Cavill is a standout in his CIA role. The marketing has really honed in on Cavill’s now iconic reloading arm motion and getting a similar brawler type for the next Bond would be exciting. Bond is always calm, cool, and collected, and even though he’s more than capable of holding his own in any scenario, Cavill’s a physically imposing figure who could really excel in this part.

I would love to do it of course. I think Bond would be a really fun role. It’s British, it’s cool. I think that now that I have my Mission: Impossible badge we can do real stunts and really amp it up as well… Not to say they weren’t doing real stunts I’m just saying it would be fun for me to actually take what I’ve learnt on this and carry it through to a movie like Bond. I’d love to play a Brit. I don’t get to play a Brit very often. So yes, I would love the opportunity and if they were to ask I would say “yes.”

This is just a want from Cavill at this point and in no way is something close to happening. Even if MGM does have Cavill on their list as potential stars to take on the role after Craig, that casting announcement is still years away with Bond 25 coming out next year. Depending on what happens with his Superman role, Cavill’s schedule could become increasingly busy too, if he’s suiting up on a recurring basis.

If Cavill were to one day become James Bond, seeing him take what he learned with Fallout (and from Tom Cruise) and apply it to another spy franchise could be great. There won’t ever be another Cruise, but Cavill appears to have liked taking a more hands-on approach with his stunts for Fallout. Whether he ever gets the chance to play James Bond remains to be seen, but its nice to see that Cavill has a specific vision for the character in mind should he get the shot.
