The relationship between James and Lily Potter is one that isn’t explored deeply in the Harry Potter series, because of the fact that their lives were tragically cut short. However, their relationship is captured in some flashbacks and through stories people tell Harry about his parents. While in fandom their relationship is often seen as a positive thing, there are also some aspects of their relationship that seem somewhat toxic....

While Lord Voldemort was a competent villain throughout the Harry Potter series, he often required the help of his Death Eaters in order to carry out his evil schemes. Some were successful, managing to please the Dark Lord amid their battle to take over the wizarding world, but others would often incur his wrath. Some fell so far down in Tom Riddle’s estimations that he would lose patience with them altogether, brutally murdering or punishing them like he would with so many of his other victims....

Apple and its cofounder Steve Jobs certainly helped design and popularize storage devices throughout computing history. For example, the Mac mainstreamed Sony’s 3.5-inch floppy drive in the 1980s, but Apple was working on its own storage devices even before the Mac debuted. One of our buddies discovered this eBay listing advertising for what appears to be a prototype of a previously unknown NISHA hard drive adorned with the colorful Apple logo....

[Update: Video example of 20 days in below the fold.] Apple’s new Jet Black finish on the iPhone 7 has a high gloss look and a glass-like grip that makes it super tempting to use without a case. But Apple correctly warns customers that the shiny surface is prone to ‘micro abrasions’ from regular use and recommends using a case to avoid gathering these tiny scratches. I really like using iPhones without a case, however, and the grippy finish makes handling my iPhone 7 Plus noticeably easier....

I get good battery life with my iPhone X as is, and my home office lifestyle means I’m never that far from a plug, so I’m admittedly not the target market for a battery case. During its WWDC keynote this morning, Apple announced new “Slide Over” and side-by-side features that allow users to run two iPad apps in a single window. The features, which we originally reported on more than a year ago, are similar to a feature also available in the latest Mac operating system, OS X El Capitan. Support for running multiple apps on the iPad comes in a couple of different ways. Slide Over allows users to place an app along the side of the interface, while running the main app at full iPad size....

With the next Indiana Jones film pushed back to 2021, Harrison Ford is reportedly in talks to star in a new movie version of Jack London’s classic adventure Call of the Wild. London’s short story, published in 1903, tells the tale of a pampered dog named Buck who is stolen from his owners and sold off, eventually becoming a sled dog in the Klondike where he meets and befriends the outdoorsman John Thornton....

The casting choices for the Harry Potter movies were undeniably close to the character counterparts in the books. The title of Death Eater was given to Voldemort’s followers, witches and wizards who followed his orders and enforced his will during the First and Second Wizarding Wars. They had to follow strict rules in order to join these ranks and serve Voldemort. Following Ingress and Pokémon Go, formerly Google-owned Niantic’s next augmented reality experience is Wizards Unite. Leveraging Harry Potter’s Wizarding World, the premise of the game was fully detailed today, with pre-registration now available on Google Play for Android. Created with WB Games San Francisco, Wizards Unite includes content and characters from the original seven-part book/film franchise and the in-progress five-movie Fantastic Beasts. Like Pokémon Go, the Foundables magical objects that need to be contained are more likely to appear at real-world locations, like parks, monuments, and libraries....

Never someone to have just one project in the works, it’s now being reported that J.J. Abrams is developing a new half-hour television series with HBO based on the YA novel They Both Die at the End. This will mark the fifth TV-related project Abrams currently has on the books and sees the famed director and producer returning to familiar TV territory after shows like Castle Rock, Westworld, and Lost....

When it comes to the anthology format, horror seems like a surefire way to get a project green lit. From Twilight Zone to American Horror Story to the technological nightmares of Black Mirror, it seems that short and to the point works best when the series in question is also trying to scare or, at the very least, unnerve its audience. That is certainly the conceit behind HBO Asia’s newest export, Folklore, which brings six unique horror stories from as many Asian countries (Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand) adapting tales from each country’s own cultural myths and legends....

HTC teased on Tuesday its new VR headset “Vive Flow,” which is expected to be officially unveiled on October 14. However, well-known leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) shared exclusive marketing images of the product on Twitter ahead of HTC’s official event. While the images do not provide us with any details of the technical specifications, they do show a glimpse of what to expect from the device. The design is not exactly unobtrusive with large lenses, but this doesn’t come as a surprise since we’re talking about a VR device, which requires more room for components....

Here’s Hannah John-Kamen’s Game Of Thrones character Ornela explained. The TV adaptation of Game Of Thrones was almost doomed right out of the gates. Bringing George R.R. Martin’s epic novels to the screen was always going to be a daunting task, but the original pilot episode was famously so bad its never been released. Chief complaints of this episode is that it was leaden and dull, with character relationships being so poorly defined test audiences didn’t realize Cersei and Jaime Lannister were sister and brother....

Overall, Star Wars fans seem to be fairly happy with the stewardship of the franchise by new owners Disney. Reviews for The Force Awakens have been positive, plans for future installments and spinoff stories have been well received, the possibility of TV series and further animated outings are well awaited. While some continue to maintain that it was an unnecessary maneuver for the company to eliminate the Star Wars Extended Universe soon after acquisition, much of the outrage appears to have dissipated by now; with attention turning toward future ventures like the long-term reach of the saga and in particular plans for a Star Wars theme park at Disneyland....

Hermione Granger is one of the three main characters of the Harry Potter series, and she’s loved by many fans. Hermione is smart, capable, and very brave, and she is central to helping Harry defeat Voldemort in many ways. While Hermione has a lot of great qualities, she also has some flaws as without them she wouldn’t be a very interesting character. She definitely had moments where she could be incredibly annoying, especially when it came to being a little bit of a know-it-all....
