It’s almost a crime that Disney and Marvel Studios have done so little with the bravest member of The Avengers. We’re of course talking about Clint Barton a.k.a. Hawkeye, the only member of the original six Avengers who somehow isn’t even in the animated Marvel Studios logo in front of their films. He’s also nowhere to be seen in the marketing materials for next month’s Avengers: Infinity War. No voiceover like the other originals in the trailer, no magazine covers (poor Jeremy Renner had to share fan art after I asked him to), no Twitter Emoji, no presence in the trailers, art, or merchandise (except this bow toy)....

Hellboy has come to the big screen in a new form - but the reviews are not being kind to the big red guy. Directed by Neil Marshall, the 2019 Hellboy was put into production after years of fans begging for a third Hellboy movie from director Guillermo del Toro, and for Ron Perlman to return to the title role. Instead, the franchise has been rebooted with Stranger Things actor David Harbour sporting the over-sized hand and sawn-off horns....

Universal once had a Hellboy spinoff in development that centered on Abe Sapien and the B.R.P.D. Earlier this week, creator Mike Mignola announced plans to develop an R-rated reboot of the Hellboy franchise, directed by Neil Marshall and based on a script by himself, Andrew Cosby, and Christopher Golden. Tentatively titled Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, the film will be “darker” and “more gruesome” than Guillermo del Toro’s movies and will border on horror....

Marshall, who is known for directing violent genre films like The Descent and Centurion, takes over here from Guillermo del Toro, who helmed the previous two Hellboy movies. The latter had originally intended to close out his trilogy with Hellboy 3, but his vision was considered too costly by the studio powers that be, and a franchise reboot was ultimately ordered instead....

In my HomePod Diary piece yesterday, I included what was almost a throwaway comment: Little did I know how many comments that one small suggestion was going to generate … It’s a minor quibble, given that it takes seconds to assign them manually, but it slightly offended my sense of technological efficiency that they required me to do it. The D.A. or Dumbledore’s Army forms in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It becomes a necessary training course due to Dolores Umbridge and the Ministry of Magic’s refusal to allow students to practice spells. The D.A. is consistent with mainly Harry’s closest group of friends along with a variety of students from Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw houses. The fifth book is chock-full of anecdotes about this motley crew of rebellious teens, but as per usual, screen time just could not permit showing all of the delicious details in its film adaptation....
